| It's
the softness, thinness and vulnerability
of a baby's skin which characterises
it. |

The
skin makes all contact possible: either with mum
or with dad. It is the skin, (touch being the first
sensory organ to be developed, well before eyes,
ears, tongue and nose), which allows contact to
be established, bringing with it life and love. |

t
birth, baby's skin is plunged into an
aerial environment with varying temperatures and
where germs are present. The skin is baby's first
protection from aggressive factors in this unknown
world.
The
skin's defense mechanisms are already present at
birth, but are not yet able to work perfectly. Thus,
during the first few years, the infant's skin is
in fact constantly under construction.
The agressors are numerous and come in different
forms: saliva, bile, urine and faeces incessantly
irritate the skin. Heat or cold, wind or sun, a
dry or over humid atmosphere, never stop playing
havoc with baby's skin. Here's a short practical
guide to a baby's skin in order to know what's going
on, to no longer worry, but most of all to take
extra special care of him. |
